When Breville discontinued its BBL605XL model, many customers were disappointed because that was Breville’s entry-level blender that offered a high-end, well-designed, stylish and effective device for a low and affordable price.
However, Breville released the Fresh and Furious model BBL620XL as a replacement for the BBL605XL model and advertised it as a compact but powerful device that keeps the price low but still offers the power, quality, and effectiveness of a standard blender.

Functionality
The Breville BBL620 blender is an excellent smoothie maker but only with soft fruits. The sufficient power aids the blades to cut through the food materials but will leave residues and grits with some ingredients, especially berries. You can make smoothies of any kind with this blender, but your results may not be grit-free.
It makes green smoothies and even has a preset program for the task, but it still doesn’t break down the green leaves completely. Most low-powered smoothie-making blenders cannot process leafy vegetables and fibrous ingredients.
Aside from being an excellent smoothie maker, the fresh and furious blender is capable of so many other tasks, but mostly light and medium-duty tasks. Light tasks include simple chopping and grinding, mixing drinks, making dressing and food prep, mixing dips and sauces, and so on. The blender does not do well with thick mixtures but requires enough liquid to be added to the mixture.
Medium tasks include ice crushing and making purees. The blender can only crush small ice cubes and small frozen ingredients. However, it is suitable for icy drinks and frozen desserts. It can also puree only soft and cooked ingredients too.
The BBL620 would leave chunks if any tough ingredients are added to the mixture, and it needs a sufficient amount of liquid for it to operate well. It is also not suitable for hot ingredients or liquids and, in addition, cannot make hot soup.
Controls
Breville’s Fast and Furious blender features stylish and easy push-button controls. It also has an LCD timer set to stop the blender automatically after two minutes of blending but will count down with the blending programs and stop when the programmed cycle is complete.
The control settings consist of three preset programs: ice crush or auto pulse, smoothie, and green smoothie. You can press a preset button and walk away; when your food is ready, the blender will go off.
There are five other speed settings labeled mix, chop, blend, puree, and liquefy from 1-5, respectively. Another program button available is the auto clean button for cleaning the blender after use to avoid the hassle of cleaning.
Lastly, the on and off button is the main power switch of the blender.
Motor and Blade
Breville’s Fast and Furious motor is a powerful 1100 watts engine housed in a plastic base rather than the stainless steel base we see in Breville’s premium models, but this is understandable considering that this model is a cost-saving one.
Remember that the blender is designed for light and medium tasks only, and so 1100 watts is enough power to enable it to carry out its functions by running the blades at very high speeds over 25000 RPMs.
Breville uses a unique design of four-pronged, serrated stainless steel blades permanently attached to the jar. The blades and jar design is said to create a kinetic design to enhance proper blending and improve the quality and texture of the food.
Container and Accessories
The Breville Fast and Furious BBL620 blender comes with a single 50 oz. blending jar. The jar is made of quality plastic and has bold measuring marks and a broad base. The jar does well with small and large quantities, but when you overload it, the blender shuts off to prevent overheating.
You don’t need any unique locking mechanism to mount the container on the blender’s base. Once you set the container on the base when properly sealed, you are ready to blend. The seal is tight yet easy to remove because it has a ring pull design. The seal also has an inner measuring lid.
Care and Cleaning
The Fast and Furious blender adopts a hassle-free cleaning method that gets the job done with just a push of a button. There is a program available for auto cleaning, and once you’ve poured soap and water into the jar, you only need to press the cleaning button and rinse the jar with clean water when the cycle is complete.
It is safer to clean the blender after use, but if the jar dries up before you wash it, do not scrape off the dry food forcefully; instead, soak the jar in water before you wash it.
The jar and lid are safe for the top shelf of the dishwasher, too, if that is more convenient for you.
Warranty and Replacements
The warranty on this blender is for three years only. While this is better than the one-year warranty other brands offer, it can not compare to the extended warranty of prominent brands like Vitamix.
